Low-budget Films in Universal’s Dark Universe?

In some interesting news, the Hollywood Reporter is stating that Jason Blum (producer, Paranormal Activity 1/2/3/4/5, Insidious 1/2, Sinister 1/2, The Purge 1/2/3, Split, Get Out, Halloween 2018, etc.) has shown interest in creating low-budget films for Universal’s Dark Universe.

While adding low-budget films to Universal’s Dark Universe might seem odd, remember, Jason Blum produced Get Out to a $525 million profit from a $4.5 million budget, and Split to a $400 million profit from a $10 million budget.

The reason Jason Blum is reportedly interested is the following: Universal currently holds all the rights to all the characters of the Classic Universal Monsters franchise.   This is something Marvel or DC currently do not have over their characters.

No low-budget projects have been officially announced.
